Discovering Flexible Childcare: How Occasional Care Can Support Your Family

Finding the right childcare solution can be a challenge for many families, especially those with varying schedules and unpredictable commitments. That's where Occasional Care steps in, offering flexible childcare that adapts to your needs.

At The Parks Occasional Care Centre, we understand the importance of providing a reliable, supportive environment for your child, all while giving you the flexibility to balance work, study, and life’s unexpected events.

What is Occasional Care?

Occasional Care is a form of flexible childcare designed to cater to families who don’t need regular, full-time care for their children. Whether you have an irregular work schedule or need flexible care options, Occasional Care provides a safe, nurturing environment where your child can thrive. At The Parks Occasional Care Centre, children participate in play-based learning that promotes cognitive development, encourages creativity, and builds essential social skills, all of which are vital for their early education and future success.

Our centre is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and we offer a range of session options to suit your needs. You can choose between 5-hour or 6-hour sessions or opt for a full day of care (8 hours), providing you with the flexibility to schedule care according to your specific circumstances.

The Role of Early Childhood Education in Child Development

The early years of a child’s life are crucial for their early childhood development. During this time, children learn essential skills that lay the foundation for their future learning and growth. Early childhood education plays a significant role in this development, helping children build cognitive, social, and emotional skills.

At The Parks Occasional Care Centre, we provide a structured environment that fosters these skills, preparing your child for a smooth transition to school. Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Learning Framework and is aligned with the National Quality Framework, ensuring that your child is engaging in high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

Through play-based learning activities, children at our centre are encouraged to explore, discover, and develop their unique talents, all while being supported by our experienced educators who are committed to nurturing each child's growth and development.

Maximising Your Child Care Subsidy (CCS) Hours and Reducing Costs

Understanding how to make the most of your Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is key to accessing affordable childcare. The CCS helps reduce the cost of childcare for eligible families, but it’s essential to manage your hours effectively to avoid high out-of-pocket expenses. Unlike long daycare centres that are open for 10 to 12 hours and often charge a daily fee regardless of how many hours you use, The Parks Occasional Care Centre allows you to choose shorter sessions that better match your needs and budget.

By selecting session times that best suit your family's schedule, such as opting for 5-hour or 6-hour sessions instead of a full day, you can ensure that your child receives quality care without exceeding your hours of subsidised care. This helps you maximise your CCS and minimise out-of-pocket costs, making quality care accessible and affordable. Our team is also available to assist you in navigating the application process for CCS, ensuring that you receive the support you’re entitled to.

Providing Holistic Support

At Community First Step, we believe in providing holistic support to the families in our community. As a non-profit organisation dedicated to serving South West Sydney, our priority is the well-being of every family we assist. Families who utilise The Parks Occasional Care Centre are not only accessing high-quality, flexible childcare but are also connected to the broader support services offered by Community First Step.

Our Community Hub team is available to help with practical needs, such as filling out forms to apply for the Child Care Subsidy (CCS). We also deliver parenting programs that provide guidance and support, helping you navigate the challenges of raising a child. For children approaching primary school age, our school readiness program equips them with the essential skills needed for a smooth transition to primary school.

Additionally, Community First Step offers case management and other support services to assist families in overcoming challenges and accessing the resources they need. By connecting families at The Parks Occasional Care Centre with these comprehensive services, we ensure that every family receives the holistic care and support they deserve.
